August can be a tricky month—it’s still hot, the kids are heading back to school, and routines are starting to shift. But it’s also full of opportunities to squeeze the most out of summer. So whether you’re sneaking in a family day, planning a last-minute staycation, or just need a change of scenery, we’ve rounded up our favorite ways to wrap up the end of summer season in style.

1. Cool Summer Nights at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
Date and Time: Saturdays through the end of August | 5:00 – 9:00 PM

What’s going on: There’s something magical about the desert after dark. With cooler temps and nighttime wildlife, this weekly event is perfect for families, date nights, or anyone who loves to see nature in a new light.
2. Tucson Margarita & Salsa Festival

What’s going on: If you love bold flavors and live music, this is the night out for you. Sample local margaritas, try salsa (the dip and the dance), and celebrate Tucson’s spicy side.
3. Oro Valley Summer Concert Finale

What’s going on: Bring a blanket, grab a bite from a local food truck, and enjoy one last summer concert under the stars. These concerts have become a staple in our community—and this final show always brings the energy.
4. Free First Thursday at Tucson Museum of Art

What’s going on: Wander the galleries, sip something local, and experience art after hours. It’s an easy, inspiring way to shake up your midweek routine.
5. Heirloom Farmers Market – Rillito Park

What’s going on: Start your Sunday with fresh produce, local coffee, and a walk through the market. It’s a small ritual that makes a big difference in your week.
6. Jazz Nights at The Century Room

What’s going on: Live jazz, dim lights, and good cocktails—sometimes you just need a grown-up night out. This intimate venue is one of Tucson’s best-kept secrets.
7. Early Morning Hikes at Sabino Canyon
Date and Time: Weekday mornings before 9:00 AM

Cost: Shuttle & parking fees apply
What’s going on: Before the day heats up, get outside. The tram is a great option if you’re not up for a full hike, and the views never disappoint.

What’s going on: Quiet paths, shady spots, desert blooms, and art installations—this is where I go when I need to reset and get inspired.
9. Trail Dust Town Summer Kids Fest
Date and Time: August 3–10 | 5:30 – 8:30 PM

Cost: Free entry; activities vary
What’s going on: A classic Tucson spot filled with carnival rides, pony rides, and family fun. A great way to give the kids one last hoorah before school starts.
10. DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun

What’s going on: This one’s for the creatives. Explore bold desert art in an even bolder adobe setting—it’s one of my favorite hidden gems in the city.
